ABBAS MAHAMAT TOLLI THE NEW GOVERNOR OF BEAC SWORN INTO OFFICE

Mr. ABBAS MAHAMAT TOLLI, new governor of BEAC and a national of Chad, and the other members of he government of the Bank were sworn into office by the current chairman of the ministerial committee of UMAC, honourable Calixte NGANONGO, Congolese Minister of Finance, budget and public portfolio on March 31, 2017 in Yaounde, headquarters of the Bank.

 

In his welcome speech, honourable Alamine Ousmane, Camerooniaan Minister of finance, said on behalf of President Paul BIYA that he was happy to welcome all the delegations on the hospitable land of Cameroon before hailing the vision of the Heads of states of the sub-region, who agreed in 1972 in Brazzaville to use BEAC for the design of a monetary policy in orderpeople and goods. to promote the free movement of people goods.

 

As he was moved by the importance of the event, honourable Calixte NGANONGO  current chairman of UMAC, hailed the states' interest for BEAC, which is the flagship of the central african sub-region .

 

He recalled to all the participants the Head of states' audacious bet to join their fate, by signing in two conventions of monetary cooperation between countries of central africa on the one hand and between the countries of the sub-region and France on the other. Honourable Calixte GANONGO said that the agreements created our institution and was an innovation ae of the top institution and structuring in terms of monetary integration.

 

Honourable Calixte NGANONGO then detailed the duties of the Bank has been carrying out for almost half a century for member countries of CEMAC.- to define and carry out the monetary policy of the Union ; to issue notes and currency in metal officially used and with a liberatory power ; to carry out te foreign exchange policy of the Union, to possess and to manage foreign exchange reserves of member countries ; to promote syems of payment and settlement and ensure theirsmooth running  and to promote financial stability.

 

Honourable Calixte NGANONGO seized the opportunity to pay tribute to all former governors appointed since 1972. Their rôle has been very important in making the bank one of the top issuing institution in Africa.

 

Last, he declared the governor sworn into went on congratulating the new governor. According to him, ABBAS MAHAMAT TOLLI, an experienced Chadian executive «is the right man in the right place».
