07 Feb, 2017

An ordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) will be held on Friday 17 February 2017 in Djbloho, mainland city of Equatorial Guinea.

Among the items on the agenda are measures to accelerate exit from the crisis in the CEMAC zone.
To this end, an ordinary session of the Council of Ministers of the Central African Economic Union (UEAC) is being held in Equatorial Guinea since 7 February 2017 to prepare proposals for the decisions of the Heads of State.
Opening the session, the President of the Council of Ministers, Baltasar Engonga Edjo'o, said that alongside proposals for the decisions to be submitted to the Heads of State to remove the Community from the economic and financial crisis, the Council of UEAC ministers will discuss analysis of the UEAC Draft Budget and the 2017 Action Plan. This plan was defined at the last meeting of the Council of Ministers of the UEAC, in a context in which the economic crisis required the urgent need to carry out reforms of the economies of the six CEMAC member States following the drop in oil prices. "It is time for countries of the Community to conclude certain projects. In this case, the rationalization of training schools and the election of Community representatives through indirect universal suffrage” he added.
CEMAC’s Vice-President, Rosario Mbasogo Kung Nguidang, said the UEAC meeting should also address the continuation of implementation of institutional reforms (with the setting up of community courts); The strengthening of the Customs Union (with the dossier on free movement of persons); The consolidation of the Common Market (with the progress of the negotiations on the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between Central Africa and the European Union) and the consolidation of public community funding (with the state of implementation of CEMAC’s Harmonized Framework for Public Management).
President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, president of Equatorial Guinea, host of the next summit, is the president of the Conference of Heads of State.
