An International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission stays in Brazzaville
The Congolese Minister in charge of Finance and Budget, Calixte Nganongo, represented his colleague Ingrid Olga Ghislaine Ebouka-Babackas, Minister of Planning, Statistics and Regional Integration, received a delegation from the IMF, led by Alex Segura-Ubiergo, Thursday 20 February 2020, in the meeting room of the said Ministry. For one week, discussions will focus on documents prepared by Congo, at the request of the Fund.
This delegation will stay in Congo-Brazzaville from Thursday 20 to Wednesday 26 February 2020, to discuss, with the technical teams of the Ministry of Finance and other institutions, the economic situation of this country “which has been difficult since the drop in oil prices in 2014”, Mr Alex Ségura-Ubiergo said. However, “signals of economic stability were noted in January 2020 by the Fund's Board of Directors thanks to the efforts of the Government of Congo”, he underscored.
The Head of delegation said that during this week-long mission to Brazzaville, the IMF will discuss with Congo aspects that “will generate jobs, increase growth, reduce poverty for the most vulnerable segments of the population, and to continue advance the structural reforms that the country has initiated, and which are improving the country's public financial situation. We are aware that this is a difficult situation, you have expectations from us and development partners. The State Budget needs the resources of the partners, Congo needs private investment which should continue to help the country move towards strategies of diversification of its economy”.
