20 sep, 2019

A memorandum of understanding, was signed, Friday, September 20, 2019 in Brazzaville, between the Congolese Government, represented by the Minister of Finance and Budget, Calixte Nganongo, and the Kuweit Fund, led by its Agricultural Advisor, Doctor Bahman.

This memorandum of understanding concerns an agricultural project to be financed by the Kuwait Fund to the tune of 23.8 million dollars, or just over 14 billion FCFA. Two divisions were selected for the start of this project. These are the Pool and Brazzaville divisions. The project will be carried out over a period of 3 to 4 years for a start. Its implementation could start in 2020, if all the procedures between the two parties are completed. After the two pilot divisions, the project will be deployed to the rest of the national territory.

The agricultural project includes several components, in particular the rehabilitationof rural roads and irrigation systems, livestock feed production, fishing and the construction of two laboratories.

“We chose 6 sites in the divisions of Brazzaville and Pool. We hope that this project, which will impact the lives of thousands of beneficiaries, will mark the beginning of future cooperation between kuwait and Congo”, Dr Bahman said, following the signing ceremony of this memorandum of understanding, attended by the Coordinator of Commercial Agriculture Development Project (CADP), Isidore Ondoki.

The project, the first for the Kuwait Fund in Congo, is part of the National Strategic Plan for Food Security.
