The Minister of Finance and Budget, Calixte Nganongo, received in audience, Friday, September 11, 2020 in his office, a delegation from the Office of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), led by its President, Valère Gabriel EtekaYemet. The latter was assisted by the President of the sub-committee "Equity and Gender", Gisèle Elanga, and the Treasurer, Yvette Yolande Ambendet.

This reception was motivated by the current context, where the National Human Rights Commission of the Republic of Congo, a constitutional institution, has been called upon by the United Nations System (UN) to meet all the conditions for promotion to category A within the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, which is based in Geneva (Switzerland).

These conditions include payment of statutory contributions at the international level, and having, at the national level, representations of this National Commission in all departments of the Congo, outside Brazzaville, its headquarters. There are, of course, other requirements. 

"An increase in the financial envelope is required to meet the various expenses (staff wages, provision of rolling stock and other logistics)," said Valère Gabriel Eteka-Yemet. Hence the double request made by the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission to Minister Nganongo, for financial support. First, for the provision of the CNDH's share of the State budget for 2020. Secondly, for an increase in the budget of this constitutional institution under the State Budget for 2021.

This will enable the CNDH to continue working to maintain the status of the Republic of Congo as the best pupil in the assessments of the human rights situation in the world, which are held each year in Geneva by the UN Commission on Human Rights.
