The insurance sector contributes to the country's economy: 3.9% of the GDP in 2016. According to the manager of insurance , Alexandre Yoka Galloy, investment in insurance generated 18 billion CFA francs against 2 billion CFA francs in life insurance. The funds mobilized by insurance carriers amounted to 577 billion CFA francs, whereas the payroll amounted to 530 million CFA francs as regard life insurance. But the rate is still low. That is why it is important to push more Congolese to get insurance, he said.
As for the chairman of the Association professionnelle des societes d'assurance du Congo, Gaston Akobo, he urged households at this time of financial and economic crisis to subscribe for insurance so as to protect their property.
As regard the CEMAC pink card, which was designed in July, 1, 1996 following the signing of a memorandum of understanding by the ministers of finance meeting in Libreville, the chairman of the office dealing with the card issue in Congo, Clave Olandzobo, said that the document , considered also as an insurance, enables a driver going across member countries of CEMAC to have insurance against the risks of civil liability that he may face, based on the damage that he may cause to third parties following car accidents that may occur in the country or countries of destination. The card is issued along with a certificate of car insurance for the same price.
The programme for the launching of the card scheduled for Tuesday, February 27, includes presentations on various themes , among others, bodies of the insurance market, insurance brokers and their role, insurance products and the need to subscribe, the steps to take in case of an accident, insurance fraud and penalties, system of checking car insurance as subscription is compulsory, the CEMAC pink card system and the writing of the accident statement minutes.
