Lénine MBIYE, Director of Airtel Money, and Jean Bosco NKUSI, Director of MTN Mobile Money (MoMo), signed, Thursday March 28, 2024, in the meeting room of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in Brazzaville (Congo) , the Statutes and the Internal Regulations which establish the Professional Association of Payment Institutions (APEP). This act was accomplished in the presence of Jean-Pierre Nonault, Director General of national financial institutions.
The Professional Association of Payment Institutions (APEP) has, among other objectives:
It is with the aim of complying with the regulations, which require establishments subject to the Ministry of Economy and Finance to group together into associations, that MMC S.A (MTN MoMo) and MCC (AIRTEL Money), which will now be governed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, carried out this act.
From then on, the payment institutions Airtel Money and MTN MoMo will no longer be placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy. However, the two mobile telephone companies, Airtel Congo and MTN Congo, remain under the supervision of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy.
In the question-and-answer game between the press and the three Directors, the journalists had the opportunity to be edified on the contribution of APEP to the Congolese Economy and on the innovations contained in Decree No. 2024 -93 of March 6, 2024 relating to the responsibilities and organization of the General Directorate of National Financial Institutions.
