End of the International Monetary Fund’s Technical Mission to Brazzaville

Discussions on the implementation of the Three-Year Financial Support Programme will continue between Congo and IMF
26 Feb, 2020

Madame Ingrid Olga Ghislaine Ebouka-Babackas, Congolese Minister of Planning, Statistics and Regional Integration, Acting Minister of Finance and Budget, closed on Wednesday 26 February 2020, the visit of the IMF Technical Mission to Brazzaville.

For a week, discussions between Congo and this Mission led by Alex Ségura-Ubiergo focused on information made available to the IMF delegation by the Congolese government.

This mission was received by the Prime Minister, Head of government, Clément Mouamba, who was the first to hear the conclusions of the discussions between the two parties. As Acting Minister of Finance, we will ensure that the entire government is informed of these findings, so that, together, we continue the efforts that are being implemented permanently and relentlessly by our country”, Madame Ingrid Olga Ghislaine Ebouka-Babackas said in her closing remarks.

She said that “things have gone well. The Mission had access to all the information it could discuss and verify. These discussions, often sustained, had only one objective: moving forward together in the implementation of the 2019-2022 Three-Year Financial Support Programme, through the guidance of the IMF. Today, we are pleased to say that the work offers good prospects”.

The Acting Minister of Finance recalled that the implementation of the Programme includes both technical assistance (through advice) and a financial support subject to the efforts of Congo noted by the Mission. This Mission will therefore be able to gather this information, so that, within a period reserved to it, it will be able to set the date of its next visit to Brazzaville.

Note that the results of the Mission that ended in Brazzaville, will determine the conclusion or not of the first review that will allow Congo to benefit from a second disbursement under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) of the three-year Programme.
