
Following the closing of the General meeting of the International Association of Treasury Services (IATS), which took place on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in Brazzaville, participants from the 29 member countries decided that Mohamed Lemine Ould Dhehby, a national of Mauritania, executive director of Treasury and Public accounting in his country, takes over Henri Loundou, a national of Congo, as the chairman of the Association.
The new chairman was represented at the ceremony by his fellow countryman, Mohamed Said Ahmed Abdy, Director of Studies and Information Systems.
Speaking to the press about the challenges ahead, he said that they remain the same - first, the capacity building of Treasury services. Since money is the sinews of war, no country can develop without the treasury; secondly, the continuation of discussions and consultations between experts with a view to improving the daily working conditions of treasury officers. On account of the world economic and financial crisis, Mohamed Said Ahmed Abdy plans to make public treasuries play a more important role of in member states of the Association.
In addition to appointing the new chairman of the Association, the partici-pants adopted the 2016 Financial Report, the 2017 Activity Report and the perspectives for 2018 and beyond.
As regard perspectives for 2018, a thematic Seminar will be held in March in Vietnam, entitled: "modernizing treasury services through dematerialization". At the end of next October, the IATS will hold its 12th Annual general meeting in Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, under the theme proposed at the general meeting held in Brazzaville, entitled: What tools can be used for de-centralization?
It should be noted that the general meeting held in Brazzaville amended the articles of association of the IATS by estatblishing a post of deputy Secretary-General, held by Abdessamad Kasimi, a national of Morocco.
