NAFI (National Financial Intelligence Unit)- Opening of a workshop on national assessment risks about money laundering- Brazzaville

A workshop is going to be held in Brazzaville from Wednesday 16-Friday 18, May 2018. It will be about a national assessment of the risks of money laundering  and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and organized with the technical assistance of the World  Bank.

The seminar was opened by Mrs. Ingrid Olga Ghislaine Ebouka-Babackas, Minister of Planning, Statistics and regional integration, representing the Minister of Finance and Budget, honourable Calixte Nganongo, in his quality as a statutory member of the Action group against money laundering in Central Africa (GABAC). The Seminar will be organized by NAFI (ANIF) and aims at giving participants information on how to assess the risks of money laundering and terrorism financing and at describing the national assessment approach to risks and to tell them about the national risk assessment tool  of the World Bank.

«This meeting, as a way of transferring knowledge, is within the framework  of the second cycle  of mutual assessments  of the measures taken to fight  money laundering  and financing of terrorism in the states of the sub region of Central Africa»,  the Minister of Planning said. The seminar will take place following the recommendation made by (GAFI), to better know the risks a country faces as regard  money laundering and terrorism financing, so as to draft appropriatepolicies and measures by having sufficient financial resources to counter the risks», she said. 

She mentioned that - financial crime hampers the harmonious and balanced development of any economy, and also puts at risk social peace and the ecological capital of a country.

For three days, participants will follow several presentations such as «thinking from scratch :  brainstorming on the risks of money laundering/terrorism financing and national risk assessment»; «the logic used for national risk assessment as a tool»etc.

At the end of the training on exchange of experience, the 70 participants  from financial and security administrations of Congo-Brazzaville and the Democratic Republic of the Congo will be able to scientifically appraise the risks of the scourges which will be under review at the meeting.
