Central African Monetary Union (UMAC)

Meeting in ordinary session, Wednesday October 4, 2023 in Douala (Republic of Cameroon), under the Chairmanship of Jean-Baptiste Ondaye, Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Congo, the Ministerial Committee of the Monetary Union of the Central Africa (UMAC), adopted the Regulations relating to the approval of the standards of the QR Code, the Bill of Exchange and the Direct Debit as well as the 2022 Report of the Financial Stability Committee in Central Africa (CSF-AC).

12th Statutory Plenary of GABAC in Brazzaville

Saturday September 30, 2023 in Brazzaville, Jean-Baptiste Ondaye, Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Congo and current President of the Action Group against Money Laundering in Central Africa (GABAC), sponsored the work of the 12th Statutory Plenary of the said Group. Board of Directors of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC)

According to the press release, on the economic and financial situation of the member states of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) in 2023 and the short-term outlook, the situation of foreign exchange reserves and the update on repatriation currencies, it appears that “in a context of slowdown in global economic activity and persistence of inflationary pressures, the Board of Directors has taken note of the risks weighing on the economic prospects of CEMAC. He urged member states and the BEAC to continue reforms aimed at strengthening the potential growth of the Zone and bringing inflation below the community standard of 3%.

National Economic and Financial Committee (CNEF)

Wednesday July 5, 2023, at the headquarters of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC) in Brazzaville, the ordinary meeting of the National Economic and Financial Committee (CNEF) was held, chaired by Jean-Baptiste Ondaye, Congolese Minister of Economy and Finance, President of the CNEF. This session was attended by his colleague, Ludovic Ngatsé, Minister of Budget, Public Accounts and Public Portfolio, Marcel Ondélé, Deputy Secretary General of the Central African Banking Commission (COBAC) and, by videoconference, Michel Dzombala , Vice-Governor of the BEAC and Jacqueline Adiaba Nkembe, President of the Central African Financial Market Supervisory Commission (COSUMAF). It emerged from the session that economic activity should consolidate in 2023, with a real gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of +2.3%.

6th Steering and Monitoring Committee of the Debt Reduction-Development Contract (C2D)

The Steering and Monitoring Committee (COS) of the Debt Reduction-Development Contract (C2D) was held, for the 6th consecutive time, on Tuesday June 13, 2023 in Brazzaville. It took stock of the existence of the said Contract since 2010, in particular the recommendations and decisions of its last annual session in February 2022. The participants made recommendations for the future.

Congo-World Bank cooperation

Thursday June 8, 2023, at the headquarters of the Integrated Public Sector Reforms Project (PRISP), supported by the World Bank, in Brazzaville, Audrey Alban Mapithy-Ma-Mapithy, Administrative and Legal Advisor (CAJ) to Jean-Baptiste Ondaye, Minister Congolese Minister of Economy and Finance, received and then officially handed over a donation of IT equipment. These are intended for the operation of the computerized system for verifying the legality of the marketing of wood from Congolese forests (SIVL).
